The Universe May Be Fractal, Holographic… and Personal: What Physics, Perception, and the Multiverse of Self Might Reveal About Reality

One of the most powerful realizations I’ve had while studying psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, and physics is this:

Reality might be far more interconnected than we usually imagine.

Not in the vague “everything is connected” way people often throw around, but in a structural, mathematical, and informational way.

Across multiple scientific fields we keep seeing the same idea appear from different angles:

The universe may operate through simple rules that repeat across scale, generating extraordinary complexity.

From the microscopic to the cosmic, patterns echo themselves.

A neuron network looks strangely similar to a galaxy cluster. River deltas resemble branching blood vessels. Lightning resembles tree roots.

Nature seems to enjoy repeating itself.

The deeper I explored this, the more it began to align with something I had been developing for years:

The Multiverse of Self : A unified philosophical theory of perception, time, and becoming.

And the more I looked, the more it seemed possible that the same rules shaping the universe might also be shaping us.


A Strange Idea From Physics: The Universe May Be Holographic

One of the most fascinating ideas in modern physics is called the holographic principle.

It suggests something counterintuitive.

We usually think the information inside a region of space should depend on its volume.

A larger box should contain more information because it contains more space.

But when physicists studied black holes, they discovered something strange.

The amount of information a black hole can contain is not proportional to its volume.

It is proportional to its surface area.

Mathematically, it looks something like this:

Information in a region = constant × surface area

In other words:

The boundary holds the information.

The interior is what emerges from it.

If that principle extends beyond black holes—and many physicists believe it might—then something remarkable becomes possible.

The universe may operate like a cosmic hologram, where the information describing three-dimensional space is encoded on a two-dimensional boundary.

This doesn’t mean reality is fake.

It means the structure of reality might be encoded differently than we intuitively expect.


Complexity From Simple Rules

Another idea from mathematics and computer science helps explain how a universe like ours could exist.

It’s called procedural generation.

Instead of building every detail individually, a system uses simple recursive rules that repeat again and again.

From those simple rules, enormous complexity emerges.

Fractals are a classic example.

A fractal is a pattern that repeats across different scales.

Zoom in, and the same structure appears again.

And again.

And again.

Mathematically we describe this idea with a scaling relationship:

Pattern at one scale ≈ pattern at another scale multiplied by a scaling factor.

In simpler terms:

The same structure shows up whether you’re looking very small or very large.

This means the universe doesn’t have to store every mountain, organism, storm, or planet individually.

Instead, it runs generative rules that produce them.

Simple equations.

Endless iteration.

And suddenly you have a universe with 18 quintillion planets.


The Universe as a Procedural Fractal Engine

If we combine these ideas together, we get a fascinating possibility.

Reality might operate like a fractal holographic system.

A universe where:

• Information is encoded on boundaries • Space emerges from informational relationships • Simple recursive rules generate complexity • Patterns repeat across scale

In this kind of system, every part reflects the whole because every part is created by the same underlying code.

The universe is not built from isolated pieces.

It is built from repeating relationships.


Where the Multiverse of Self Fits In

This is where things get deeply interesting.

Because the same principles may apply to human perception and identity.

In the Multiverse of Self Theory, I propose that each person exists across multiple layers of becoming.

We are not a single fixed identity.

We are a constantly evolving set of potential selves shaped by:

• perception • choices • experiences • actions over time

Our identity emerges from the interaction between our internal world and the environment around us.

In a sense, we are recursive systems.

Each decision slightly reshapes the future version of ourselves.

Over time, those decisions create different trajectories of becoming.

This idea can be represented by a simple relationship:

Effort = Action + Choice over Time

Verbally, what this means is simple but powerful.

Who we become is not determined by one moment, one decision, or one emotion.

It is determined by the repeated interaction between our choices and our actions over time.

Just like fractals.

Small rules.

Repeated endlessly.

Creating enormous complexity.

Your life.


The Self as a Fractal Process

If the universe itself is fractal and recursive, then the human mind may be a smaller-scale version of the same pattern.

Each person becomes a local expression of a larger system.

A node in a massive network of becoming.

Every choice alters the pattern slightly.

Every action changes the trajectory.

Every experience becomes part of the recursion that shapes the next version of the self.

You might say the universe is running a kind of generative equation that looks something like this conceptually:

Reality = boundary information + recursive generation + scaling patterns + observers

That may sound abstract, but the meaning is surprisingly human.

Reality emerges from relationships.

And we are part of those relationships.


Why This Matters

This idea changes how we think about growth.

If the universe itself evolves through repeated patterns, then personal transformation may follow the same principle.

You don’t need one perfect moment.

You don’t need one perfect decision.

You need consistent recursion.

Small improvements.

Repeated.

Day after day.

Just like fractals grow from simple mathematical rules, the self grows from repeated actions and choices.

Over time, those patterns create entirely new versions of who we are.


The Universe and the Self

If these ideas are even partially correct, then something remarkable may be true.

The universe may not simply contain conscious beings.

Conscious beings may be part of the universe’s understanding itself.

A recursive system becoming aware of its own patterns.

The cosmos learning to reflect.

And every one of us participating in that process.


A Thought to Leave You With

If the universe truly operates through recursive patterns…

And the self evolves through recursive choices…

Then perhaps the most important question we can ask ourselves is this:

What patterns are we repeating?

Because the patterns we repeat today are the ones that quietly shape the universe we experience tomorrow.

And as I often remind people:

Question reality.

there is a beginning.
